Yes, You Can Make More Than $100K As a Writer

I’ve told this story 100 times, but here it goes again: when I first wanted to be a writer at the age of 5, I was given a recorder. When I wanted to write for the local newspaper at 15, my mom helped me build a resume, featuring ‘Middle School Editor’ and ‘Babysitter’ as job titles. When I arrived to college, I created an oversized purple portfolio in a binder, with a cover I made out of magazine scraps. And when I decided to go for internships my sophomore year in the Big Apple? I tracked down every last email I could find, and somehow, ended up with an internship at Cosmopolitan.

Fast forward so many years later, and I’ve been lucky to fulfill my lifelong dream of being a writer. My parents have always been my biggest supporters—reminding me that, absolutely, I can have a career as journalist. And though naysayers have definitely popped up here and there, achieving the lifestyle and income you want is possible.

These female writers are living proof—since they all make $100K (or more) a year.
