On Climbing Machu Picchu On Earth Day… With My Mother
Can we talk about my mom for a second?
At 57 years old, she:
–Jumped out of bed at 4 a.m. this morning.
–Waited in line for 50 minutes before taking a super-curvy hour-long bus ride to Machu Picchu.
–Climbed 2,500 feet to the top of Huayna Picchu, the mountain behind Machu Picchu, with an elevation of 8,900 feet.
–Climbed back down Huayna Picchu and conquered her fear of heights via narrow, small stone stairs, only a few of which had cable rope… a mere few feet from the edge.
–Then toured around Machu Picchu for two hours, up and down many, many more flights of stairs.
–Didn’t complain or give up once. In fact, she even modeled on the rocks, because she is Kim Tigar, after all.
When I got into Remote Year last March, she excitedly said ‘Peru! We have to go to Machu Picchu!!!!’
Thirteen months later, I’m so very grateful to share this one-of-a-kind experience in one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever been with my very favorite person on Earth.. on Earth Day.
You’re a total badass Mama. Thank you for supporting and encouraging my every wish, whim, dream and ambition, no matter where my wanderlust has taken me. I’m so grateful to be your daughter and when I grow up? I want to be just like you.
