Today On Remote Year…
…I mailed 10 pairs of underwear and a bathrobe to a man I’ve never met in Iowa. [He’s a friend of a Yugen, kindly bringing some necessities from the states. Don’t worry, mom.]
-Somehow managed to translate instructions on a printer in Spanish so I can begin the – um – experience that will be doing international taxes.
-Was part of a roundtable discussion about International Women’s Day with fellow Yugens, including men and women, where we discussed gender roles across countries, females in the workplace, the idea of a feminist and how we can all make a difference.
-Witnessed – for a split second – the Argentina female protest, where they’re fighting for the right to have a legal abortion, equal wages and for the end of catcalling.
-Finished the day with dinner at a local’s home, complete with 9 siblings (!), lots of empanadas, dolce de leche and vino. And of course, laughter that carried us all the way back home. Well, that and their mini bus they own because they roll 11 people deep.
These Yugen moments – as we call them – don’t happen all the time. But man, when they do? They’re something else.
